If your New Years Resolution this year is to lose weight, don’t give up when you’re forced to step outside your comfort zone. If you workout and you’re sore, remember that the soreness goes away. If you’re craving sweets and junk food, remember that the cravings go away. You have to be mentally strong and commit to the diet and if you want to get outstanding results!
Believe in yourself and you will see the results.
The first week will be challenging. I asked myself "how is it possible for a person to survive on only 850-1000 calories/day?"
For the first few days on diet you will feel hungry, after the first week of being on the diet, hunger will sustain and you will get full after consuming very less amount of food.
You just have to be strong and survive the first week.
Forget about pasta, potatoes, rice and beans. This is a low fat, low carb diet.
I was very hungry all the time at the beginning and I ate light soups instead of carrots or celery (just because I don't like them).
I am very hungry usualy by 5-6 pm so I eat my dinner early. Dinner is the biggest meal of the day and if you eat early it will be digested before you go to bed.
If you have a grill and oven you can do this.
If you are hoping to combine dieting with exercise, Scarsdale may not be the right food plan for you.

For those who are vegetarian or do not want to eat meat while on diet - there is a vegetarian scarsdale diet plan.

I buy the bread from Trader Joe's - California Style Complete Protein Bread. This is a delicious bread with a lot of nutts and it's better if you toast it. (I think is $3.49/loaf)
High protein bread is frequently sold out so when you find it just buy 2 or 3. Keep the protein bread in the freezer, and take out and toast a slice at a time. Eat your slice of protein toast as a snack between meals, or at another meal instead of breakfast.
If protein bread is not available, you may substitute whole wheat bread (100% whole wheat or stone ground), or multi-grain high fiber bread.

I buy the burger meat also from Trader Joe's - Angus ground beef extra lean 96/4. It comes in 1 lb. packages. Just mix it with some burger spices and throw it on the grill. Super flavorful and super juicy. It's about $4/pound.

All meat should be very lean; remove skin and all visible fat before eating.

Breakfast is one of the important things in maintaining or losing weight. No more excuses. Peel the grapefruit one night before (when you watch TV - this way your hands are busy and you don't even want to consider eating anything). Put it in screw top container and keep it in the refrigerator until next morning. Now you just have to toast a slice of bread and to brew a cup of coffee. Voila. Breakfast is ready.

Prepare all salads without oil, mayonnaise, or other rich dressings. Use only lemon and vinegar, or the vinaigrette or mustard dressing. I take a jar and I put mustard, balsamic vinegar, garlic, salad seasoning, a touch of water, put the lid on and shake well.

Non-stick vegetable spray, cocktail sauce, herbs, seasonings, spices, grated onion, minced parsley, ketchup (sugar free & low carb okay), chili sauce & mustard are all permitted within moderation.
